Premantura

Premantura is a small village in Istria, Croatia, on the southernmost tip Istrian Peninsula, just south of the city of Pula.

A short distance from Premantura is Cape Kamenjak – a small peninsula consisting of more than 30 km of coastline with several coves and beaches. In the southernmost part of Istria (county of the Republic of Croatia), on a sliver land surrounded by the sea and perched on the top of a hill, there lies a small and ancient village. It had been called Promontorium Polaticum first, then Promontore (Promontore d’ Istria) and finally Premantura. Throughout history Premantura & Kamenjak have been exposed to constant changes of government due to the importance and uniqueness of its position. In the 20th century, the inhabitants of Premantura had lived through six different political regimes or states.

Medulin

Medulin is a small town and municipality in the southern part of the Istrian peninsula in Croatia. At the 2011 census the municipality had a population of 6,481, while the settlement proper had 2,777 inhabitants. The town is built around a harbour between Cape Promontore and Capo Merlera.

Kamenjak

The southernmost cape of the Istrian peninsula is one of the last coastal oases that has kept its appearance. It is a mosaic of cultivated fields, pastures and green groves almost immersed in the sea. The nearby towns are Pula and Medulin. You can reach the rocky beaches of the Cape Kamenjak by one of Istrian cycling trails or by sea in a kayak.

Brijuni National Park

Along the coast of western Istria, there are several groups of islands among which the most interesting, the largest and the most indented is the Brijuni group of 14 islands and islets. The total surface area of the Brijuni National Park is 3,395.00 ha, of which there is 2,651.70 ha of sea, while the surface of the islands is 743.30 ha. The length of all island coastlines amounts to 46.82 km, while the length of the sea border amounts to 22.93 km.

Explore Istria

Istria is indeed a feast for the eyes. Its streams flow to the sea through deep valleys and gullies which bring to mind the ancient local myths about giants. Rolling hills overlook the fields and valleys with little towns perched on the peaks, recalling some old paintings. The view is splendid: white-topped mountains, lush wheat fields, plateaux, valleys, vineyards and olive groves on hillsides, and, finally the sea.
